Two weeks ago, I attended the Coilhouse Magazine Black & White & Red All Over Ball at the Red Lotus Room in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. The setting inside had quite dim lighting so I didn’t take many quality photos, not to mention the flash in my built-in camera was too harsh to adequately capture the decor of the place. The one performance I got the most out of photographically was at the very end, of fire performance artists Sky and Vlad of Eros Fyre. They were mesmerizing and simply amazing. Most of the photos below are from their performance, as they illuminated enough light to capture the atmosphere from where I was sitting (all the way at the back), plus a couple more taken earlier in the evening.
Photo Chronicles: Disposable Camera #1
I’ve been experimenting with film cameras lately, specifically disposable cameras. The images below are from my first roll, unedited. Seeing the photos for the first time after I got them developed, I realized just how out of practice I am with film. Instead of being disappointed with how out-of-focus and grainy most of them are, I’m hoping to learn from this. Plus, posting them unedited online allows no room for shame. These are the ones that managed to develop, others didn’t come out at all. One thing I did appreciate was the vintage-like quality of some of these. Some of them look like they could be from the 1980s.
Photo Chronicles: McQueen at the Met & Caro on the Roof
On July 31, 2011, D & I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I to see the incredible exhibit, Alexander McQueen’s Savage Beauty (fantastic overview from Coilhouse here,) which ends on August 7th, and D to see Anthony Caro on the Roof. We weren’t allowed to take photos of the McQueen exhibit, but I took photos of the snaking line, on which we waited nearly 2 1/2 hours. Photos of the McQueen line, Caro exhibit, and views of the city from the roof below.
